A.P. Exam
The A.P. exam is a crucial portion of the A.P. experience. This can earn you college credits and give
insight on how much literary knowledge you have gained throughout the past semesters.
insight on how much literary knowledge you have gained throughout the past semesters.
Multiple Choice
You are given one hour to complete the first part of the dreaded A.P. exam; the 55 multiple choice questions. The scores earned on this test account for 45% of the overall exam.
In order to succeed while taking this villainous test, your diction levels must simply be more than proficient. Deciphering the vicious vocabulary that the creators of the test enter into the questions and answers is a necessity. One excellent resource for studying and practicing the multiple-choice part of the exam is Khan Academy, which is also an excellent SAT (and academics in general) studying resource. |
Free Response
The second part to the A.P. exam consists of three free-response questions/essays that must be answered in two hours. These exam scores determine the final 55% of the overall test.
There is only one word that I could use to describe what will earn you an acceptable score on the writing parts of the exam -- analysis. You must be able to compare the content (themes, quotes, the what of the literature, etc) and the craft (literary devices, the why of the literature, etc). Evidence is essential, and summary is on the 'Catie Scott's What NOT To Do On The A.P. Lit Exam' list. Hopefully your A.P. Lit teacher emphasizes on analysis as efficiently as mine does! Speaking of my analysis-extraodinaire A.P. Lit teacher; Mrs. Rutan has a weebly of her own where plenty of studying techniques can be found. |
